An old stone building is reinvented. An interaction between restoration and conservation

A private house, located in the old town of Safed, Israel, between old stone buildings and crowded houses, is being renovated, highlighting the interaction between trend and tradition, old and new

The stone building has the shape of the Hebrew letter "Chet" and has five levels: one for the wine cellar, three for the residences and the last for balconies and outdoor spaces

The project involved both conservation and restoration of parts of the building and the connection between the external and internal space

In the new house, the external courtyard serves as a public space, while the private spaces are located in the peripheral areas

After a phase of documentation and familiarization with the formal and material aspects of the site, a consolidation of the building followed

The designers claim that the history can be seen through the stones, the vaults, the arches, the original niches, while materials such as steel, cement, glass represent the new

The project includes a play area and a storage room on the cellar level, while on the ground floor there is a kitchen, a dining area and a living room
