Rehabilitated building. Wood and concrete reconstruction of uninhabitable parts

In Santiago de Compostela, by a residential street, a three-storey house is rehabilitated by Arrokabearquitectos, in which deteriorated parts are rebuilt and additions are made using wood and cement

A closed surface is added to the traditional structure on the first floor, which could serve as a terrace on the second floor and a roof on the ground floor. The house, which had not been inhabited for several years was deteriorated mainly due to the continuous ingress of water from the roof

Inner courtyard

Trusses and wooden frames are added to the rear facade. The vertical structure is preserved, while for the horizontal one a horizontal structure with concrete and wooden slabs is proposed

Inner courtyard

The new internal staircase takes the exact place of the previous one. The opening corresponding to the staircase body is enlarged to allow more light to enter and the structure of the staircase itself is minimalist so as not to obstruct the entry of light

Inner courtyard

The interiors are light and bright, a garden is designed in the inner courtyard, surrounded by the existing parts. It was important for the house to have its own vegetal, varied and changeable environment
