Interior of a recovered industrial space
From a former chocolate factory to a living space. The industrial space is transformed

In the urban center of the small town of La Bisbal d'Empordà, in the province of Girona in a historic block of the late nineteenth century, there is a small warehouse with peculiar shapes, which the architects of the A&EB studio transformed into a home

The former factory has a very unique space thanks to its very distinct typology. The structure is divided into three floors, with a load-bearing facade made of stone and each floor is built using a different technique

On the ground floor, metal beams support a Catalan vault, while the second floor consists of a main structure made of metal beams with a wooden frame. Finally, the roof has large logs that support a thin slab of brick, which is finished with ceramic tiles

The design concept makes it possible to enjoy the original spaces, with minor modifications and manages to completely adapt what was an industrial space into a studio and family living space

The original staircase of the building is preserved and another one is added at its end which enables a greater accessibility inside the building. The outdoor spaces are adapted to the new use: a swimming pool takes its place in the center of the patio, with a large living room surrounding it
