From a large duplex to two separate houses. Combining modernity and stately character

The CAVAA arquitectes project adapts a large duplex to new family needs, dividing it into two independent apartments. The challenge is to preserve the elegant elements characterizing the original space without depriving itself of a touch of modernity

One of the most positive features of the duplex was the large south-facing terrace and the fact that the house overlooks one of the most distinguished parks in Barcelona, Turo Park, with the sea as a backdrop

The design particularly highlights natural light and skylights that are added in less illuminated spaces. The project preserves a set of materials and furniture of great value and beauty, such as the cast iron staircase or herringbone oak parquet or carved wooden doors, all combined with contemporary design

The proposal does not try to create two identical or symmetrical apartments, but seeks a more complex and richer solution. A first house arranged mainly on one floor has a studio that uses the terrace of the previous penthouse floor. The second, which is organized on two floors, has a terrace associated with the living room, with a dining room and kitchen

The building stands in a small green oasis within the city of Barcelona, and even on the original terraces of the house the vegetation has always had a special relevance. The new outdoor spaces are proposed as a link between the original elements, complementary to the previous ones
