Interweaving of public and private buildings. A series of courtyards create a space between the blocks

The site at Ursulinen High School in Malines, Belgium, presents a mixture of different styles and types of buildings, a labyrinth that Label architecture tries to structure through the introduction of courtyards and open spaces

The Ursuline site in the centre of Malines is characterised by different, undefined buildings. The public buildings intertwine with private homes, and the whole block looks like a labyrinth in a poorly visible urban fabric

To structure the dense block, courtyards are introduced, which create large open spaces that are not built, a space for the buildings. The transition from public to private spheres, the permeability of some architecture and not of others becomes tangible in this way
