In the municipality of Puig-reig, Catalonia, there are the remains of Merola Castle, dating back to the 13th century: a watchtower, which became unstable due to the earthquake in 1500 was stabilised thanks to the design of a wooden tower by Carles Enrich Studio
Thanks to the intervention of the Carles Enrich Studio, it has not only been possible to preserve the remains of the castle, but also to make them a point of attraction for visitors
The first step was to consolidate the remains of the medieval structure and then strengthen them with a wooden structure that will complement the original design of the stone wall
The wooden structure is composed of square section with a staircase that allows the circulation and facilitates the maintenance of the monument inside. In addition to supporting the construction, the wooden tower also reestablishes the original function of the tower, that of a panoramic viewpoint
